PV- Blocks

All-in-one PV Measurement Solution

The PV-Blocks solution is a unique and versatile set of instruments to test and analyze any type of PV technology. It is targeted for Small cells, PV modules and complete strings. The IP68 system supports Silicon, Thin-Film, Perovskite, Hybrid materials, organic PV and even the latest high-capacity Bi-facial modules.

Th all-in-one system has the right tooling for the following research areas:

  1. Performance Ratio
  2. Generated Power Monitoring (AC/DC)
  3. In-depth PV Material Research

The PV Blocks system supports the following standards:

  • IEC 61724-1
  • IEC 61215-2
  • IEC 60891
  • IEC 60904

The advanced research system is fully compatible with the latest PV technologies now in development and is scalable to test multiple modules in parallel. During long-term exposure tests, automatic measurements can be scheduled for continuous data retrieval of the measurable modules parameters.

Up to 32 modules can be connected to the PV-Blocks base pack, to measure each individual IV-curve and characteristics under MPP load conditions. Similarly, individual temperature measurements are performed on the PV module. If modules are mounted with different tilt angles, different pyranometers or reference cells can be used to measure the total radiation in plane with the module. The system can be expanded with a meteorological station, sun-tracker (DNI, GHI, DHI) and spectroradiometer. The system is modular and can be adjusted to various system configurations. It can be expanded for simultaneous measurements of multiple modules of different currents, voltages and power ratings.

The irradiance (GHI, DNI, DHI, POA) and module temperature can be measured simultaneously with the voltage and current measurements in order to calculate to STC or equivalent standards. The internal Linux computer and special software combines the data from all sensors with the IV-measurements. Integration of spectral measurements is possible with EKO spectroradiometers.

An important feature of the PV-Blocks system is the direct integration of controllable loads (up to 600 Watt). These loads allow for full IV-curve measurements, dedicated MPP tracking and positive voltage biasing.

The system is equipped with a high-quality rugged computer that incorporates a database for configuration and measurement storage. Dedicated software (web interface) combines the data from all sensors and the available measurements.

The turn-key PV-blocks system is designed for outdoor and laboratory usage and can be supplied with a weather proof enclosure. This way it makes it very easy to install the measurement system in close vicinity to the PV setup.

The modular PV Blocks system consists of the following products:

  • PV Base
  • IV/MPP Load pack
  • PV Switch pack
  • PV-MON
  • PV IRR
  • PV TEMP
  • PV MOD
  • PV-METEO
